The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (FAIC) has approved a plan for a new system of entry visas into the UAE, geared at investors and professionals. This new system will allow qualified investors and professionals to access a long-term visa, for up to 10 years.

The 10 year residency visas can be granted to investors, innovators, and talented specialists in the scientific, medical, technical, and research fields.

A five year residency visa has also been announced for foreign students studying in the UAE, and a 10 year visa for those marked exceptional students. At present, foreign university students hold a visa valid only as long as they are enrolled. Upon graduation, this visa becomes void, and the students will have to leave the country, continue further studies, or seek a sponsor and job.

A review of the existing residency system is also set to be conducted, with focus on potentially extending residency permits for students sponsored by their parents after completion of their studies.
